Exploring Japanese women’s photography, Cavazzuti argues that the use of self-portraiture reveals a shared need to make a political statement.
Federica Cavazzuti
Federica Cavazzuti recently obtained a PhD in Archaeological, Historical and Historical-Artistic Sciences at the History Department, University of Turin, Italy. Her primary areas of interest are contemporary Asian visual arts, women’s art, feminist studies, and curatorial activism. Her research, focusing on the development of women’s photography in Japan across the 20th and 21st centuries, was awarded a Japan Foundation Fellowship for the 2023-2024 year, during which she served as a Visiting Research Fellow at Waseda University, Tokyo. Over the past decade, she has collaborated with art institutions in Italy and the UK to curate multidisciplinary exhibitions in both private and public spaces.
